High court gets a taste of city's dark reality

CHENNAI: Despite a 2007 order prohibiting power cuts in courts , the Madras high court on Thursday was forced to work for over an hour without power—a problem that residents of the city and other districts are forced to evolve every day. Judges had to make do with emergency lamps.

According to M Antony Selvaraj, vice president of the Tamil Nadu Advocates Association, in 2007 there was a court order asking Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) to abstain from imposing power cuts during court working hours. "So this is a kind of contempt," said Selvaraj.
