CARSON WESTERN LANDSCAPE HAND COLORED LITHOGRAPH IN ORIGINAL CATHEDRAL ARCHED FRAME WITH CONVEX GLASS You are bidding on a c1890-1910 Hand Colored Lithograph by William A. Carson (1867-1949) in its original ornate Gilt Cathedral Arched Frame with Convex Glass. Carson hand tinted this lithograph for the Chicago Portrait Co. where he was a staff painter of Western landscapes. While he was there, he produced hand painted lithos of his original paintings in molded form to fit the late Victorian era convex bubble glass frames originally designed for the portrait industry, which began to wain as the photograph gained in popularity in the early 20th c. Each of his lithographs are unique by virtue of being hand colored. This one appears to have been done using oil pastels. This wonderful lithograph has a distinctive California Impressionist look that features a scenic Western landscape depicting a creek trailing through a mountainous range flanked by boulders and tall birches. There is a hairline in the print otherwise it is in very good condition. It is signed on the lower left "W.A. Carson." The back of the frame retains the "Chicago Portrait Co." stamp. The framed litho measures 21 3/4 inches long x 13 3/4 inches wide. This lithograph exemplifies W.A. Carson's early work and is a beautiful decorative antique item.
