Put The Light On!
Now is the time to look around your home and see if your indoor lighting is doing justice to your home. Rooms always need ambiance or a little soft lighting to add character to your home.
Many newer homes in Mahwah have lots of recessed lights that when turned on or off, it’s all or none. Of course, dimmers help but consider adding a beautiful lamp or chandelier to that area.
A soft light in a corner can be just what your home might need. There are large varieties of lamps and mini chandeliers out there to choose from. Sconces are a wonderful addition to sides of a painting, mirror, or fireplace. Some of these come with decorative rods that climb down the wall and plug into an outlet so there is no need to break through a wall.
Chandeliers can be dropped into a ceiling from an attic and add a nice look to a bedroom or walk in closet. In a local Mahwah home on Brookside, we added sconces inside decorative boxes to fill up a blank wall where the homeowner did not know how to finish this area.
Timers set to go on at different times of the day can allow the home to feel cozy and allow homeowners’ freedom not to worry that the home is too dark. There is a great selection of lamps, including my favorite, candelabras, that you are sure to find whatever your heart desires.

What is a Plug In Wall Sconce and When should You Use It ...
If you want to give a room the “romantic” look then lighting is a good place to start. You probably do not want something too bright or overpowering; this rules out ceiling mounted fixtures. If the room we are talking about is your bedroom (romantic makes sense here) then you might want something that is good for other purposes such as reading; this rules out candles. Luckily there is still the option of using a wall sconce, if you are so inclined.
Wall sconce vs. wall light
Let us get one thing straight; a sconce is not the same thing as a light. A light consists of the bulb and the component that the bulb screws into. A sconce is the component that attaches the light to the wall.
Before the advent of modern miracles like electricity, wealthy individuals used torches throughout their halls and rooms for lighting. The torch would be placed into a wall sconce so that it would stay in one place several feet up from the base of the wall. In modern times the term sconce is used to describe a wall mounted fixture related to lighting; this often times has a swinging arm attached to it with a light on the end.
Ease of installation
The plug in sconce is much easier to install than other wall mounted options. Light fixtures are typically installed while a house is being constructed; during this time it is fairly easy for wiring to be run behind the drywall. Adding wall lights and ceiling lights after a house has been fully put together can be a little more difficult. This is where you can benefit from a plug in wall sconce.
While the typical sconce would require you to put holes in the drywall and run wires behind it, the plug in wall sconce has an electrical cord that comes out of the side of the unit and dangles to the floor. It has been designed this way so that you can plug it into any nearby outlet without having to cut holes in anything. This cord could also be pulled to the floor and run under the carpet, or simply let hand between the sconce and the nearest electrical outlet.
The sconce and the swing arm wall lamp
Now days, swing arm wall lamps are popular because of the convenience they provide with regard to light control. Many sconces have arms which attach the sconce to the light itself, though this is not always the case. Some sconce models simply have a light mounted onto the sconce but with no ability to change the light’s direction; if this is the case then a lamp shade over the bulb is quite common.
