Nkomo legacy in crisis
People are always trying to look for a Saviour Figure in African politics. Joshua Nkomo was not the founding father of what you call liberation struggle - he was invited to lead by the likes of Chikerema, George Nyandoro and Edison Sithole. Don’t poison the young with lies. It would suffice to just mention Nkomo as one of the people who were involved in the scramble for power when Britain made it known that it was giving up overseas colonies nothing else. People are trying to embellish history. Nkomo emasculated Zapu from being a credible alternative to an appendage of Zanupf in 1987 when he signed the sell out Unity Accord. I was a member of Zapu from 1960 I am afraid Nkomo didn’t do much and have no idea why he is lionised at all. What a lot of nonsense! Don’t you ever talk of so-called liberation struggle, semi-educated and educated in one sentence. Without colonialism there would not be any education or semi-education to talk about. This to me is a contradiction - on one hand you want to praise so-called liberation struggle [which was nothing but a political power struggle] and then brag about Joshua Nkomo being educated but without colonialism Nkomo would have been another uneducated tribesman hunting and gathering. Many people forget that education was introduced to this part of the world by the colonialists. Joshua Nkom’s education was sponsored by a white woman, Mrs Hoskins, who employed him as part-time driver in S Africa. His parents worked for the London Missionary Society. Was also employed by Sir Donald Macintyre as a carpenter in Kezi and Tsholotsho. Worked for Rhodesia Railways. Influenced into politics by Enoch Dumbutshena in 1952. When Nkomo was running away from Zanu in the early 80s he passed through Botswana, an African country, to seek refuge in London, United Kingdom of all places. Nkomo emasculated Zapu as a credible opposition to Zanu by joining Zanu in 1987. Once again Nkomo was chosen leader, like Mugabe, for one reason and one reason only - some COLONIAL EDUCATION. There’s no way they would have been leaders without colonialism. At the advent of black nationalism in Rhodesia there was not a single black doctor, no single black mechanical, civil, electrical, architectural engineer, no single accountant, no single qualified electrician, no single qualified motor mechanic, no single dentist and many other professions which make a country function.Facts On Ethiopia - News
