Review: Latest 'Transformers' game falls short [The Charleston Gazette, W.Va.]
(Charleston Gazette, The (WV) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 28--Last year, developer High Moon Studios delivered what I consider to be the greatest "Tranformers" video game to date, "War for Cybertron." The game was like a walk down memory lane for many "Transformers" fans, while the three-player co-op campaign and exciting Escalation multiplayer mode made it a hit amongst gamers. Tasked with creating the game adaptation for the soon-to-be-released summer blockbuster "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," High Moon Studios has tried to recapture the same magic that made "War for Cyberton" so endearing. But changes to the core gameplay and the omission of some key features leave "Dark of the Moon" feeling more like a "Cybertron" knockoff than a true sequel. "Dark of the Moon" serves as a prologue to the upcoming film of the same name and finds the Autobots on a quest to eliminate the last remaining Decepticons on Earth. The single-player campaign lets gamers experience both sides of the battle as they take on the roles of iconic characters like Bumblebee, Soundwave, Ironhide and Starscream through levels ranging from a bombed-out Detroit to a lush Central American jungle. In this mode, your character can take and dish out massive amounts of damage, even more than when in robot form. Because of this fact, I felt almost forced into Stealth Mode as a means to survive. This is a stark departure from "War for Cybertron," when I transformed into vehicle mode only as a means to get where I was going quickly. While I understand the need to make the "War for Cybertron" gameplay more accessible to casual gamers, a little more balance would have been appreciated. This newfound reliance on Stealth Force also extends to the game's competitive online multiplayer modes. The biggest gripe I have with "Dark of the Moon" is the complete lack of cooperative gameplay. Being able to pair up with my friends or my kids and turn waves of Decepticons into scrap metal was one of the highlights of "War for Cybertron" and gave that game infinite replayability. My kids and I played through both campaigns multiple times and still pop it in occasionally when we're wanting to experience some robot-blasting fun. Ah, fun. At the end of the day, that is what is missing most from "Dark of the Moon." It simply isn't as fun as its predecessor.Charleston Gazette Newspaper - News

Missing Elkins man's body found, probe ... - The Charleston Gazette
ELKINS, W.Va. -- The body of a missing Elkins man has been found in the Norton area.
Sixty-seven-year-old Raymond E. Canfield was last seen driving his car last Monday evening. The vehicle was found two days later in Elkins.
Elkins Police Chief H.R. White says police found Canfield's body late Friday. Details weren't provided.
White said earlier that a person of interest in Canfield's disappearance was found dead in a local motel on Thursday. That person hasn't been identified.
The Inter-Mountain reports that Canfield came to the newspaper's office last Monday morning to pay his bill and renew his subscription. Staff said there wasn't any indication he was planning to leave the area and he didn't appear confused or ill.
Canfield's body was sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy.
