Monticello: what to know if you go
Hour drive from Washington. You’ll want to spend at least three hours there, watching a terrific movie about Jefferson, taking a tour of the house (there are special family tours) and checking out the hands-on exhibits at the visitor center’s Griffin Discovery Room, designed for kids ages 6 to 11. You can take a short bus ride from the visitor center up to the house and back, but if the weather is nice on the day you go, definitely walk back down. It’s less than a mile, and the path takes you past the Jefferson family cemetery and through the woods that Jefferson played in as a child and loved so much throughout his life.Where: Monticello is at 931 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville, Virginia.
When: It’s open daily, except Christmas. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; tours run throughout the day. (On some days during the summer, it’s open until 7 p.m.)
How much: Tours cost $22 for adults (they’re $17 during the winter) and $8 for kids ages 6 to 11; younger than 6 are free.

Without intending to cover up anything or make any topic taboo, Shortbus tells us of love, pleasure, sex, relationships and the pursuit of these. It’s an intricate web of stories that are very human, portrayed through unforgettable characters.
This sincere and bold narrative takes us through the stories of various individuals and their struggles with pleasure in all its shapes and forms. From the male homosexual couple seeking a new addition to their relationship to a couple’s counselor who has never experienced an orgasm, this movie says it all. Each story simmers slowly throughout the movie as we explore each characters torments until it all boils together in the underground sex-club Shortbus .
This movie is excellent in its use of all human emotions. It’s funny and refreshing, sexy and bold but at the same time confusing and sad, compelling and deep. You get very involved with the characters which, by the way, are quite daring in their portrayal. The director of this movie took a big risk and nailed it! Shortbus manages to be sexual without being vulgar, sensual without being cheap and explores almost every aspect of human sexuality. Although it’s certainly not a movie you would like to watch with your mother, it’s a story you can’t miss out on.
Warning though, keep the virgin eyes at bay. Or if you’re like me, strap them to a chair and make them watch it.
