Thanks for the insight, fellas. I think I would end up crying if I took a saw to the case. =) I'm considering all of these, but I had a thought later on in the day, of getting a custom 20-space rack from R&R with maybe a rack of 12 spaces in there with a foam cutout at the bottom for the mac pro. I'm wanting to put an HD3 system in there with a set of avid pre's, 2 MADI interfaces, HD I/O (one set) and APC...if all of that will fit in a 12-space rack. What do you think? Feasible? As far as mounting horizontally without cutting the ears off, you can do this. You can have your portable rack made with extra wide rack rails accommodating the extra space necessary to lay the G5/MacPro on its side. As previously mentioned, the compartment for it can be made with tight-fitting foam. The machine won't go anywhere unless you purposely push it out. I've built a portable system for a client like this with no issues whatsoever. Personally I built my own mount with G5/MacPro rack ears I was able to buy from someone who had some extra Marathon parts they didn't need. Mine is vertical though. I just made my own sliding shelf out of two pieces of 3/4" ply sandwiched together the depth of which is equal to the depth of the MacPro. I scavenged the rack mountable sliders off an old Marathon G4 mount I had lying around and attached them to the wood shelf. Then I screwed the MacPro ear mounts into the shelf. And I use a single space rack blank with a piece of foam on the inside toward the computer to keep the shelf from sliding forward during transit. I mounted the computer on the left side of the shelf, so I can easily slide it out and access the inside whenever necessary without too much trouble. If that's too many rack spaces for you to sacrifice in your case, I'd go with a wider case with extra wide rack rails and a foam space for the cpu. Yeah, Marathon was based here in Nashville... I had been to the warehouse a couple times, & when I heard they were disappearing, tried via email & phone to reach them. Finally got a reply saying there were no more in the warehouse & unfortunately not going to be, either. Rats!! Which is why I wish somebody (like me, with all my spare time?! HA!!) could secure the tooling & build that mount again... there IS a market for it out here!
