"Orchids for Everyone!" is the theme of this weekend Kaimuki Orchid Society Annual Orchid Show and Plant Sale at the cafeteria Aina Haina Elementary School.

The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday until 16 hours. The school is located at 801 W. Hind disk.

Workshops on growing orchids will meet at 10 am both days, with a session on orchids honohono to 2 pm on Saturday. Admission is $ 2 at the door. For more information, visit www.kaimukiorchidsociety.org.

CBS hunts for top ‘Hawaii Five-0' fans

CBS Television Studios is trying to find five "ultimate ‘Hawaii Five-0' fans" for a contest with prizes that include special admission to the Sept. 10 second season premiere at Sunset on the Beach and a chance to meet the cast and producers.

The network says the winners will also become "social media ambassadors" for the show and receive additional prizes such as round-trip airfare to Oahu, three nights at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, a visit to the "Five-0" set, an advance copy of the Season 1 DVD and $500.

Ward Centers turns into dog's paradise

Ward Centers, the only Oahu shopping center that permits leashed pets on property, has scheduled special events and sales Sunday for pet owners and other folks.

From noon to 3 p.m., at Ward Warehouse, shoppers can pamper their pooches with $5 doggie washes and massages that benefit the Hawaiian Humane Society. That same day, The Pet Corner is sponsoring a "Krazy Pet Trick Contest" at 1 p.m. The store also will host a variety of pet-product vendors.

A photographer will be available at the Eden of love / The Wedding Café at Ward Warehouse to take pictures of animals with a qualifying purchase, and customers who donate $ 10 to the Humane Society will receive a discount 20 percent. Other traders offer "Doggone trafficking," and customers who are on the same day Ward Centers goods or receipts totaling $ 50 million meals or more will receive a Dairy Queen for $ 5 / Orange Julius gift certificate to while supplies last. You all know that's a big thing and recurring theme here on Ka Leo. Made in Hawaii is something special that we should be proud of. After all, how many people want to live here as opposed to other parts of the world? Hawaii No Ka Oi baby! Helping fuel the appetite for Hawaii are some of the iconic things that cater to our identity and way of life. I was so impressed that I decided to outfit my entire crew as well. Next event, this is our uniform for the night. I aim to get more in the collection soon.

I was so happy to find this store, by accident! We've seen the departure of Hawaiian Moon and we're still cheering for Iolani Sportswear (earlier post) as our fabric manufacturers struggle against the giants of China, Thailand, Malaysia - you get the picture.
