Court says Realtor on hook for daycare cleanup
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A state appeals court says a real estate firm could be on the hook for the $800,000 cost of cleaning up a mercury-contaminated site where a daycare once stood in Gloucester County.
The Kiddie Kollege daycare in Franklin Township was shut down in 2006 because of the contamination.
Since then, there's been a legal battle over who's responsible for the costs to clean it up.
A judge previously ruled that Accutherm, a thermometer company that used the site, remained responsible even after it sold the property because the company failed to clean up the site.
The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill reports the three-judge panel on Thursday said the Navillus Group, which bought the building in 2001, is the responsible party.
State environmental officials say they'll seek the $800,000 from the broker.
