PETA names Kristen Wiig, Russell Brand “sexiest vegetarian celebrities” of 2011
People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals, the activist bunch that once lobbied Ben & Jerry’s to use human breast milk in their ice cream in lieu of cow juice, have named comedy types Russell Brand and Kristen Wiig the Sexiest Vegeratian Celebrities of 2011. While I wasn’t aware there was such an award, we’re happy to let you comedy fans know that it does exist; once a year PETA uses the gimmick to draw attention to their cause– which is a good one, by the way.
On their official site, PETA says, “Russell, a vegetarian since the age of 14, keeps us endlessly entertained with his wit and crazy antics, which always leave us wanting more,” adding, about Wiig, “Kristen makes us laugh until we cry in whatever she does—whether she’s lighting up the big screen in films like Bridesmaids . Her jam-packed schedule is often crazy, so Kristen stays healthy by eating lots of tofu and soy.”
I’d like to say congratulations to Wiig and Brand for the, um, honors they’ve received. However, to the young comedy fans out there, I have a message. I’ve seen both Brand and Wiig up close and personal– they are both painfully thin. Like, crazy thin, with absolutely no muscle tone. Being a veggie is cool and all, but trying to be skin and bones is not.

The movies are only one source of exposure to depictions of smoking and the formation of settings and social norms of smoking. Movies undoubtedly contribute to these attitudes and norms, but to suggest that the cinema is the only factor that such or that these studies shows an isolated effect of smoking in movies is ridiculous, and certainly not scientific.
