Gary Larson's Tales from the Far Side airs with a soundtrack by Bill Frisell

Bill Frisell has probably changed the sound palette of jazz guitar more than anyone since the 1980s, blending country music, free jazz, abstract noise, rock, US classical music, and much more. Frisell worked in the 80s with iconic European label ECM and with John Zorn, but 1994 saw one of the most appropriate collaborations of his career, on a Far Side TV soundtrack for his equally lateral-minded and very American friend, cartoonist and illustrator Gary Larson. Frisell's lopsided lyricism, spontaneity and warped bluegrass sound was perfect for Larson's cartoons, and spread his reputation far and wide.
